Quick Reference for Track Lighting Kits

1.  Track lighting is versatile and adapts to a family's specific needs; track lighting kits make it easy to use light to accent artwork or architecture, to add task lighting to specific work areas, or to direct ambient lighting throughout a room. Accent lighting provides more intense lighting than the room's overall illumination.

2.  Flexible track lighting kits allow you to bend the track to customize your lighting system, adding depth and dimension by angling light and illuminating or accenting kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, bedrooms, playrooms, lofts, even garage or basement workshops. Angle accent lights at about 30 degrees to reduce glare.

3.  The most basic way to install track lighting is to link together track sections with straight connectors. Two types of L-connectors offer inside or outside polarity; inside polarity is the more common choice.

4.  By joining track sections with flex connectors, a variety of angle layouts and variation of planes can be achieved for wall-to-ceiling layout and cathedral ceilings. Cross connectors can be used to piece track sections together to give rooms complete coverage.

5.  Before shopping for a track lighting kit, identify your needs: what purposes will the lighting serve, and where will it be installed? Track lighting can be powered by a standard outlet or a junction box, using line or low-voltage tracks and incandescent, fluorescent, or halogen bulbs.

6.  Once you have installed track lighting, you can use it to spotlight any chosen area, whether it is at floor level, or near the ceiling. Track lighting makes it easy to rearrange furniture; simply change the angle of the lights to match the new floor plan.

7.  One track lighting kit will provide ambient lighting and/or task lighting for a small room. Use multiple track lighting kits to light larger rooms.

8.  Wall washing is used to subtly highlight paintings, photos, or wall hangings, and to make rooms look larger and more open. Angle a group of recessed fixtures toward the wall so the light delicately washes over the grouping you wish to accent.

9.  Low voltage track lighting kits require installing a junction box, and cord-and-plug connectors let you connect to standard outlets. A floating-canopy connector provides power along the track's length, and live end connectors provide power at the end of the track.

10.  Install track lighting in the front entryway of your home to welcomes guests and set the mood for a pleasant and relaxing visit. Spotlights aimed down a hallway, up a stairway, or in the direction of an accent table or large potted plant evoke a sense of elegance and romance.
